Envelope Art – Christmas Card

Yesterday, we received our first Christmas card.  I love Christmas cards.  I love how each card is unique, some with many pictures, some with one picture, some with hand-written notes, some with letters detailing the year.  Each card takes on a personality that comes through in those personal touches of the Christmas card.

While selecting the actual Christmas card usually takes center-stage, the envelope you address can also bring delight to the person receiving the card.  Here is one way to liven up your envelope–even if you don’t have the world’s greatest handwriting.

To decorate your envelopes using this method, you’ll need the following supplies:

envelope, printed wording, pencil, markers/pens, eraser.

First, you’ll want to select a font that you want to use with the address.  Then, print off the wording using the font you selected.

Then, get your pencil and cover the back of the wording in graphite.

Now, lay the image you wish to transfer onto your envelope. Using a pencil, trace the letters.

Now, get your pens/markers and go over the pencil lines.  Finish the address and any further decorative details and your envelope now takes on a personality that should bring joy and excitement to the receiver!

You can use this technique not only when addressing envelopes, but with anything that needs lettering.  I have a decorative chalkboard and use this technique when changing the words and images on it.

My tutorial was rather simple, but take a look at these envelopes to get more inspiration!
